In recent years, the integration of technology into mobile furniture and traditional whiteboards has become a significant focus for our team.
Driven by client demand and our own research into evolving workplace design trends, we’ve recognised the growing need for tools that support seamless collaboration in hybrid work environments. This shift is more than just a trend; it’s a necessary evolution in how workplaces function, ensuring that both in-office and remote teams can contribute effectively and equitably.
The rise of hybrid working has underscored the importance of engaging teams, regardless of their physical location. With advancements in technology and an increased demand for versatile solutions, we are now better equipped than ever to create products that enhance collaboration. By thoughtfully implementing these technologies, we can offer innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern workplaces.
Our journey began in 2018 when we explored ways to integrate large TV screens into our mobile whiteboard products. The goal was to create a dual-function tool that combined the traditional utility of a whiteboard with the modern need for AV presentation space. This concept led to the development of the ThinkingWall AV Divider, which quickly became a staple in our product range and remains one of our most popular offerings today.
Building on this success, we extended our product development to include AV capabilities within our ThinkingWall Acoustic range. This system of multifunctional, movable walls is designed to empower work teams and project teams to optimize their workspaces according to their specific needs.
The ThinkingWall Acoustic AV has since become an integral part of the range, and we have delivered numerous custom versions to suit the unique requirements of our clients. This includes integrating full Teams meetings systems to significantly improve the hybrid and remote working experience.
A logical progression in our product development was the integration of battery power to enable wireless functionality. We frequently heard from interior designers and architects about the challenges of positioning floor boxes and power points to support flexible, mobile furniture. By incorporating battery power, we’ve eliminated the issue of trailing wires, allowing for greater freedom of movement and flexibility in the workspace.
The addition of battery power has also opened up new possibilities for incorporating other technologies into our products, further enhancing their functionality. While all these options can be powered by mains electricity, the inclusion of batteries provides the added benefit of mobility, allowing the furniture to be easily repositioned throughout the day and recharged overnight.
One particularly interesting challenge was the integration of lighting into our ThinkingWall mobile storage unit. We aimed to create a diffused glow under the shelves, contrasting with the typically harsh overhead office lighting to create a more welcoming and homely atmosphere.
On a smaller scale, but equally practical, we added a built-in wireless charging pad to our mobile storage unit. This feature debuted at the Workspace Design Show in 2023 and proved to be extremely convenient for topping up phone batteries throughout the event.
As we look to the future, the integration of technology into mobile furniture will continue to be a key area of focus for us. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, whether by collaborating with clients to create bespoke solutions or partnering with manufacturers to incorporate the latest technological advancements. Our goal remains the same: to deliver products that not only meet but exceed the needs of the modern, hybrid workplace.
