Team sport strategy and tactics get played out in real time within a given ‘field of play’. Relatively simple visuals can be used to good effect – to represent the field, the opposition and the ‘home’ team members, and that being able to move ‘people’ around and simulate tactical positions and plays is the stock-and-trade of coaching. We’re not claiming to have invented or discovered anything new here, but we were delighted to be approached by newly promoted Cardiff City FC who wanted to upgrade their existing whiteboard resources with something that looked a bit more professional, and was portable enough to take to away games
Cardiff City Football Club approached us for a professionally looking upgrade, and slightly larger version to an existing board they had. This was a single sided whiteboard that was designed to be fixed to a wall. Through discussing the requirement, we established that ideally it would be something they could travel around with and therefore use at away matches as well. It also turned out that they used a full pitch wall mounted board as well. We therefore proposed a double sided lightweight magnetic board, pre-printed with Club crest and alternate pitch layouts on opposite sides of the same board, complete with padded carry case, collapsible easel and a kit of drywipe tiles for representing opposition players and subs, pens and cleaners – essentially a complete kit that could be taken to away matches for dressing room pre-match briefings.
The kit has gone down really well with the coaches and we’ve made a further kit since, with clear plastic wallets replacing the drywipes so they slide printed cards in to improve legibility. (new pic to follow)
“Dan and his team at LogoVisual were extremely helpful, we knew from the start we had chosen the right company. They took our brief, went away and mocked up a design and had the patience with us making constant tweaks until it was exactly what we wanted. The Premier League is elite level football, and LogoVisual bespoke white board helped us reach a new level of professionalism with the feedback we can give to the players before and during the game. Ultimately, the job of the coaches is to transfer information quickly and effectively to the players, and we are delighted that LogoVisual were able to help us do this. We have made further tweaks to the board, but the kit has gone down really well with the coaches and players.”
