Whiteboards are difficult to recyle due to their multiple components, which need to be split before they can be processed. This is true of any type of dry wipe board, including magnetic receptive glass whiteboards.
The whiteboard furniture we produce is designed to give many years’ use. As we understand that business needs change, we encourage clients to repurpose and re-use the furniture they have previously purchased from us. Adapting your furniture for re-use is a more sustainable approach that avoids products ending up in landfill, as well as offering a cost saving on buying new.
We undertook a project to recycle products we supplied a few years ago to a long-term client. They have offices in multiple locations, so we worked with them on a plan to relocate some items and re-size them to fit the new space.
Space constraints and cost also dictated the recycling of what was already in place. The client had some of our standard sized ThinkingWall Dividers. They had added soundproofed pods to use for private calls to the ends of the Dividers that made them extend into walkways, compromising escape routes.
We took some of the existing Dividers and created two new reduced size units from each. This still gave them a good size to allow for a decent writable surface and to ensure a better fit into the available space. We were able to repurpose the writing surface, and just add new custom printed ends and wheels. This provided a cost effecctive solution.
The cost saving was extended to another office where they had increased the fit out space. As luck would have it in one block they needed exactly the same sized configuration, which allowed for economy of scale.
The client was able to demonstrate that they were meeting targets for sustainability, as well as reducing expenditure by recycling and adapting.
If you have whiteboard panels that have reached the end of their useful life in your workspace, they may still be useful for someone else. We do not offer a buy back or removal service, however we’d suggest approaching local community groups, grassroots sports clubs or charities to see if they could make use of your whiteboards. In many cases panels can be cut down and edged to be mounted in a smaller space.
If you have some exisitng whiteboards and you’d like to discuss options to re-purpose them, give us a call or click the enquire now button below.
