Yorkshire to Hong Kong: crafting a bespoke wooden office storage divider

The challenge? To create a traditional-style office storage unit that blends luxury finishes with cutting-edge technology. The result? A stunning piece that showcases the best of Yorkshire craftsmanship and bespoke manufacturing.

The project: a fusion of tradition and technology

Our client wanted something truly special for their Hong Kong boardroom suite; a piece that would not only provide functional storage but also make a statement. Enter the ThinkingWall Cupboard Combi – a compact, multifunctional unit that typically includes storage, a dry-wipe surface, an acoustic screen, and space for a TV or AV equipment, all on a wheeled base.

While the standard ThinkingWall Cupboard Combi is sleek and modern, featuring a whiteboard surface, acoustic panel, and matching plinth, our client wanted an upgrade that would reflect the elegance of their boardroom. They were looking for something imposing, luxurious, and distinctly unique.

From concept to creation: the bespoke design process

One of the advantages of our made-to-order approach is the flexibility it offers. We thrive on the challenges that come with custom requests, unlike mass producers who may struggle. For this project, we applied both our expertise and that of our trusted partners. The starting point was to develop a concept design in-house, working closely with the client to ensure their ideas were realised.

To bring the design to life, we paired our bespoke manufacturing experience with that of skilled cabinet makers in Yorkshire, UK. The result was an extraordinary piece crafted from warm cherrywood, offset with bold black accents. The extra-large Cupboard Combi featured cherry veneer and solid wood mouldings on the doors and fixed panels, creating a truly luxurious finish that matched the client’s vision.

Going beyond standard: a custom-made solution

The standard ThinkingWall Cupboard Combi measures 1200mm wide, but for this project, our client required something larger. We combined two 1400mm wide units, resulting in an impressive storage divider with a total width of 2800mm. This not only provided additional storage space but also really showed off the cherrywood finish, making a bold statement in the boardroom.

Another customisation was the addition of a second AV screen. The larger size of the unit, supported by a robust steel structure, accommodated two 55-inch TVs side by side, plus a NEAT meeting bar. This blend of traditional woodworking and modern technology made the unit both functional and visually striking.

The final touch: shipping and assembly in Hong Kong

Once completed, the bespoke unit was carefully packed into custom-built crates for shipment to Hong Kong. We understand the importance of treating each piece with the care it deserves, especially when it’s destined for an overseas client, and we cannot be on site to assist. Upon arrival, the client team assembled the unit on-site, with us available to consult with should any issues have arisen.

This project was a fantastic example of how our team can blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to create something truly special. From the warm, luxurious cherrywood finish to the cutting-edge AV integration, the ThinkingWall Cupboard Combi delivered exactly what our client needed—a perfect fusion of style and functionality.
